MOUNT GOWER, LORD HOWE ISLAND

MOUNT GOWER, LORD HOWE ISLAND

Mount Gower, a World Heritage-listed island off the coast of New South Wales, is one of the best day hikes in Australia. After climbing to the 875m high peak you’ll have panoramic views of this eco paradise.

This 14k round-trip climbs through the mist forests, filled with ferns, rare orchids, and moss-cloaked trees, at the mountain’s summit. Check out the spectacular views of adjoining Mt. Lidgbird; Balls Pyramid and the lagoon.

This challenging five hour inbound hike has ledge crossings and rope sections to negotiate, and the descent out is about four hours.

When: Ideal March through to September.
